Our location

Sheffield is well known as one of the sports capitals of the UK, and for good reason. We are lucky enough to be located right beside the Peak District which gives us unique access to one of the most scenic and challenging training environments in the world. Get on your bike and in 10 minutes you can be spinning through open moorland.

Being the greenest city in the UK, there's also no shortage of parks to train in without going too far. Our running sessions often take place away from the hustle & bustle of city life and into areas of outstanding natural beauty.

Spring 2020

Swimming

Swimming occurs on Monday evenings, Thursday mornings and Saturday afternoons at the 33m pool at Goodwin Sports Centre. The sessions will be lead by a mix of our fully qualified student coach and members of the committee. In Term 1 our focus is on building technique and swimming skills. Term 2 is our 'build phase' where we seek to improve strength and endurance. Term 3 sessions involve improving speed and developing open-water technique.

The swims are divided into different abilities by swim lane, so everyone is welcome! Our student coach - Amie Smith - leads our beginner lane with specific drills and technique work targeted at a beginner level.

Our open-water swimming sessions start in April/May when the water is a bit warmer.

An old photograph - as we haven't taken a group photo in the pool for a couple of years!

Cycling

Cycling sessions occur on Wednesday 1pm and Sunday 10am, although some weeks the times vary slightly on this. The majority of our rides start at Crosspool Tavern where we head out into the Peak District, taking on killer climbs, fantastic decent and enjoying the incredible scenery. The training sessions are split into two or three groups to cater for different speeds. The routes vary each week and the group leaders use their experience to choose quiet and cycle-friendly roads with a difficulty to suit the group. We don't leave anyone behind and all rides will go at the pace of the slowest rider!!

In the winter, conditions the road can be particularly hazardous. We try to provide a cycle every week, however sometimes it is not safe to do so. Fear not though beacuse through winter we run a very popular weekly spinning session on a Wednesday afternoon to keep your bike fitness up.

Autumn 2019 - a bit chilly for just cycling shorts!

Running

Our Tuesday run session is often an interval session, with different groups to enable all abilities. The groups all have a leader who will time the intervals and have a route planned. Sometimes we do intervals in laps around a park so we all stay together as a group - just running at different speeds! If we can book a session at a local running track as we do several times a term, this will take place on a Tuesday evening.

Our Friday evening run is more of a social run, there are again different groups doing different distances at a leisurely pace to accommodate everyone.

Park Runs are on Saturday mornings 9am in Endcliffe Park, a 3 minute walk from Endcliffe Village. This is a great opportunity to get some 5 Km race experience in an extremely friendly atmosphere. The best thing about this is that it is completely FREE!

We love a post-parkrun Spoons breakfast at the Franny Newton - so keep your eyes peeled throughout the year for our organised park run and breakfast!

Autumn 2019 - great turn out to a track session

Strength and Conditioning

Once a week we have introduced a weights and stretching based class, targeted specifically to a triathletes. This is to help our members stay fit and injury free throughout their training and racing.

This session is on a Thursday evening, held at Goodwin gym in a specially equipped training room. In this last year 2019-2020 they have been led by club member Jordan Weddepohl who famously makes some absolutely killer sessions, with fun challenges - always a popular and social session.
