History

To meet a growing demand, the Triathlon club was established in 2013 with help via funding from Sport Sheffield. During The University of Sheffield Sports Awards, the club managed to win 'Most Improved Sports Club' for the 2014/15 season.  From there the club has grown steadily with the number of members during 2021/22 reaching over 70. The club competes in BUCS events throughout the year as well as many other local and regional races. We also have our highly anticipated Varsity Sprint Triathlon against Sheffield Hallam University around March time. Unfortunately in 2020 we couldn't race due to the restrictions and lockdown, but we have won the overall trophy every year except one since the club has been created! The club has held annual training camps in the spring offering its members to go to Portugal, Lanzarote and Mallorca, and the Lake District so far, a great chance to bond as a team and get ready for race season.

Our Aims:

  •  To provide support for students and opportunities to enjoy the sport of triathlon.

  •  To foster a supportive community of triathletes.

  •  To allow students of all abilities opportunities to compete in local and national events.

  •  To provide effective training and support for all abilities.

  •  To promote the sport of Triathlon within the University and the local area.

What we do:

  • We run nine formal training sessions each week: 3 swimming, 2 outdoor cycling, 1 indoor spin,  2 running and 1 Strength & Conditioning class.

  • The sessions are structured so that everyone will benefit, whether you are new to the sport or an experienced triathlete.

  • Additionally, informal training is organised between members who wish to push themselves further.

  • We compete in a variety of events (triathlons and others) throughout the year.

  • Socials are organised regularly, a mix of both drinking and non-drinking and coordinated with other clubs.

  • A training holiday is organised each year, providing a fun and challenging opportunity for members to bond and train.
